THE SPAMOUNT STREET INCIDENT

JANUARY 12 1994

An unarmed British Soldier on peacekeeping duties with the RUC in Spamount Street of The Newlodge Area is shot and seriously injured by an IRA Sniper. Within an hour, a boby-trap bomb explodes in the house used by the sniper nearly killing several members of the British Army and the RUC. British Soldiers rushed to secure the area and do a swift search of the demolished house for potential casualties, Soldiers did a quick search of the area and made 2 arrest, a loaded weapon was also seized.
